Ms. Germaine Buchanan
I’m a public school educator with 30+ years of experience. I’ve taught in Baltimore City Public Schools and the New York City Department of Education. I’ve educated students in grades K-3 in all subjects. I’ve worn many hats in education – Teacher, Academic Intervention Services Coordinator, Assistant Principal and currently Literacy Coach. My passion is teaching my students to read and supporting teachers with that. Reading is the one skill students need to be successful in all other subjects.
In addition to be a dedicated educator. I’m a devoted mother, daughter, and friend. I like most educators always make sure our students and families are okay but we often neglect doing that for ourselves. After becoming very ill in 2016 and getting a second chance at life I realized the importance of self-care. You have to take care of your health (physical, emotional, and spiritual) because your health is your wealth. As I help students build their literacy skills and help educators with lesson plans, I also want to help other educators prioritize their self-care to prevent from ending up in a health crisis that could be preventable.
I hope to be an inspiration and cheerleader for students and educators in and out of the classroom.
